Treatment is medical (dental) for mild gum disease to surgical treatments for more advanced disease. Medical treatment includes professional teeth cleaning with tartar and plaque removal or scaling and root planing for plaque below the gum line, done under local anesthesia. .Surgery is needed when the tissue around your teeth is unhealthy and cannot be repaired with nonsurgical options. Drugs to reduce oral bacteria may also be used in treatment. Treatment options range from the more simple to complex that influence the cost of therapies.The total cost includes a one hour consultation with a specialist. Not included are diagnostic studies, consultations with additional specialists and cost of complication management; travel, food and lodging.
