Liposuction (fat removal) is any cosmetic surgery operation that removes fat from different sites on the human body. Areas affected can range from the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks, to the neck, backs of the arms, and elsewhere.
Fat is removed through a tube with a suction device. There are several different liposuction devices. New therapies will use ultrasound, the use of sound waves to selectively destroy fat.
Another new treatment in development is cryolypolysis, freezing fat cells in order to dissolve them.
The total cost includes a one-hour consultation with a specialist.
Not included are diagnostic studies, consultations with additional specialists, and cost of complication management; travel, food, and lodging.
