Specialty Surgeon Complete Packaged Procedure for a Bariatric Surgery for Morbid Obesity (POSE, Gastric Pacemaker, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Bypass). We are a multidisciplinary team treating morbid obesity for over 15 years with a lot of experience in bariatric surgery (more than 700 operated cases) and in monitoring these patients during the pre-post surgery process.

Our action PROTOCOL includes:

1 – A first consultation to evaluate the patient: obesity degree, possible comorbidities (associated diseases), level of answer and adherence to previous dietary treatments starting and evolution of the obesity, to dismiss endocrine or psychiatric causes, and a psychological assessment. This initial evaluation is performed by the surgeon and the psychologist, an expert in nutrition as well (psychonutritionist).

We inform about the different treatments within the broad range of possibilities (POSE, Gastric Pacemaker, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Bypass), as well as their risks and benefits, and the importance of changing eating behavior and lifestyle.

With all this information we set a procedure with the technique chosen reasoned with the patient.

2 – If the patient is a candidate and accept the process, a series of preoperative tests are requested:

a. Gastroscopy and biopsy of gastric mucous (discard dysplasias and helicobacter)
b. Abdominal ultrasound
c. Blood test with coagulation studies
d. Respiratory function tests (spirometry and chest X-ray)
e. Echo cardiogram and Electro cardiogram
f. Evaluation by cardiologist and study pre-anesthetic.
g. Psychological report (and psychiatric if required)
h. In certain cases could be ordered more extensive study: pulmonary, vascular, endocrine)

3 – A second consultation with the surgical team to evaluate all the results, discuss questions, provide informed consent from the patient of the chosen procedure, and set the date of the surgery. Usually, we provide a diet before the surgery to achieve a weight loss of between 5 and 10% overweight.

4 – Follow-up Program:

a. Surgeon reviews: After discharge, the patient is evaluated seven and thirty days later. Subsequent to the three six and twelve months.
b. Psychonutrition: support for eating behavior and emotional care from six and eighteen months, depending on the surgery procedure chosen.

The sessions vary in frequency and time according to the conditions of each patient. Special emphasis is placed on changing habits and thoughts to eat properly under all circumstances, in a second phase is design a new lifestyle encouraging active life, with exercise adapted to the conditions of each patient.

Procedure: The operation is performed under general anesthesia and laparoscopy technique. It lasts about 40 minutes. After waking the patient is transferred to the room (time estimated of 4 hours).

The liquid´s tolerance starts at 8 hours after surgery.
The hospital discharge occurs the day after (maximum 2 days).

In this treatment package for Bariatric Surgery for morbid obesity, the cost includes the facility fee, physician’s fee, cost of drugs, and any related medical procedures required to administer the plan of care. Not included are other diagnostic studies, consultations with additional specialists, and cost of complication management; travel, food, and lodging.
