Every day, we are exposed to indoor and outdoor toxins

Many want to reduce their exposure, especially when it comes to their children’s health and raising their family.

Healthcare and Your Childrens Health

Whether you are thinking of starting a family or in the process of raising your kids, it’s important to know what you can do to protect your loved ones against harmful toxins.

Since development begins in the womb, even unborn children exposed to such toxins are subject to lifelong effects on mental development, cognitive thinking, and learning. Protect your children’s health by removing harmful chemicals and toxic substances that can cause health risks to kids’ health and healthcare by using these household tips.

Keeping It Clean—Go Green!

Of course, we are all taught to wash our hands with soap and water whenever possible to eliminate the transfer of germs. The healthcare of your kids depends on this lesson in maintaining healthy bodies and strong minds. If soap or water isn’t available, an alcohol-based hand sanitizer is a good second option.

When you are cleaning your home, avoid strong-scented soaps and washes as they are from hash chemicals. A developing fetus can be affected by these fragrances, so select cleaners that are organic or make your own. There are recipes for baking soda or vinegar solutions that you can make from the items in your kitchen. For a fraction of the cost, you can go green while cleaning kitchens, bathrooms, mirrors and windows, garages, and any other room or surface you need to sanitize.

Dust Bunnies Beware

Low levels of toxic substances are common in the home and are known to stick to dust. Ordinary household items slowly break down as time goes on, turning into dust particles.

In order to minimize these toxins from your home, clean all surfaces, floors, and home goods once or twice a week. Apply a wet cloth to all surfaces to maintain children’s health. Use a high-quality vacuum to clean your carpet and a wet mot for hardwood or linoleum floors.

When washing floor mats, put them in a separate load to keep the dust from transferring to your clothes. Reduce your clutter by finding airtight compartments and cabinets for household items, especially children’s toys. It’s recommended that you have someone else handle this for you if you are pregnant or have a newborn baby. For added kids’ health, teach them the proper ways to clean so they can continue the habit into adulthood.

The Dangers of Plastic

Plastic has been an incredible invention for a multitude of uses, but when it’s heated, it can be quite toxic to the body, especially to children’s healthcare. Plastics have been known to cause cancer and other healthcare issues.  Here are some plastics to avoid:

  • Bath toys
  • Chewing/teething toys
  • Plastic and microwave-safe plastic (heated plastic transfers into food)
  • Plastic bottles (use glass)
  • Vinyl (PVC) shower curtains and bath toys

Rethinking Renovation

Renovating your house can be an exciting project, but it can also send toxic fumes and dust everywhere. If you are hiring out the work, make arrangements to stay elsewhere unless the renovations are completed.

If you are doing the work yourself, separate the work area with industrial plastic sheets. Secure the edges with tape. Be sure to open your windows if the weather permits and use fans that blow the debris outside.

If you have children, are pregnant or are planning to start a family, and then be sure to only enter the renovated area once the fumes are long gone.
