Dermatologic surgery encompasses a wide variety of methods to remove or modify skin tissue for health or cosmetic benefit.
Surgical procedures include scalpel surgery, laser surgery, laser for skin removal, chemical surgery, cryosurgery (liquid nitrogen), electrosurgery, aspiration surgery, liposuction, injection of filler substances, and Mohs micrographic controlled surgery (a special technique for the removal of growths, especially skin cancers).
The skin is susceptible to many diseases, discolorations, and growths and may also be damaged by excessive exposure to the sun and the effects of aging. In most cases, skin problems requiring dermatologic surgery can be addressed in the dermatologist’s office or in an outpatient setting, usually under local anesthesia, with minimal pain, and low risk of complications.
The total cost includes a one-hour consultation with a specialist.
Not included are diagnostic studies, consultations with additional specialists, and cost of complication management; travel, food, and lodging.
