Dermabrasion is a surgical procedure that involves the controlled abrasion (wearing away) of the upper layers of the skin with a high-speed rotary instrument with an abrasive wheel or brush.
It is used to remove the outer layers of the skin and improve any irregularities in the skin surface. CO2 or Erbium: YAG laser is also used.
The procedure requires a local anesthetic. The purpose of dermabrasion is to smooth the skin and remove small scars (as for acne), moles, tattoos, or fine wrinkles.
Treatment cost includes the facility fee, physician’s fee, related medical procedures, and drugs required to administer the plan of care.
Not included are diagnostic studies, consultations with additional specialists, and cost of complication management; travel, food, and lodging.
