What is MRSA

MRSA, short for Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. MRSA is exactly what the name says it is, it is a bacterial staph infection that has a resistance to the medication, Methicillin. It is generally a skin infection that if not treated appropriately can spread to the organs.

What is MRSA and how do I treat it?

Although MRSA has only been around since the 1960’s it has become to be known as a Superbug, due to its resistance to different medications.

MRSA is classified as a “serious” infection as it can be fatal and highly contagious.

Some strains of MRSA can be very difficult to treat because of the resistance to medications, which is why it is important to take any symptoms of MRSA seriously.

Symptoms may include redness on the skin, boils and open sores that are painful, more serious symptoms can include fever and chills.

MRSA starts by targeting open skin it’s important to keep cuts or any open skin clean.

Since it is a staph infection, theoretically, it can be picked up almost anywhere but it is mostly found in hospitals. This infection usually targets elder or unhealthy individuals and school athletes, healthy people rarely get infected.

Most of us are carriers of the infection, which means we carry the MRSA bacteria on our skin, nose, or even in our blood system but do not develop an infection.

If an infection is developed it is very important to know how to handle a person with the infection so that the infection will not spread.

It is imperative that gloves are used at all times when handling all items related to the infection and must wash your hands immediately after removing the gloves.

Wearing a mask is also recommended.

Any material used by the person with the infection such as linens and towels is to be washed regularly. Any personal items such as razors, should be disposable and never shared.

Although MRSA is resistant to many antibiotics, the good news is it can be treated. It may take a combination of medications to fight the disease. In some cases, the infection can be recurring due to the medication lowering your immune system or not getting rid of all of it.

Some treatments may last up to a year and can become expensive. However, there is a new treatment that is said to kill non-normal cells, meaning it can fight various diseases including MRSA and cancer. This treatment is cream-based and is made up of all-natural minerals.

It works with your immune system to fight off any abnormal cells. It has shown great improvement in past MRSA patients.
