With all the advancements in modern medicine
It would be easy to dismiss the old insights of herbal medicine as “not needed”. But scientists are actively studying the mechanisms by which plants can heal us, validating many of the experiences and observations made a long time ago.
So, why do we still choose pills for everything?
Let’s look at the numbers on pills: Americans spent more than $300 billion on prescription drugs last year. nearly half of all adults have taken at least one prescription drug in the last month; nearly a third regularly use two or more; and women are more likely than men to use prescription drugs and pills, according to the CDC statistics.
Drugs can undoubtedly save lives, but our blessing for prescriptions can sometimes mean treating or masking symptoms, without fixing the root cause of the health issue. The most prescribed drugs in the U.S. have a science-backed alternative and holistic remedies.
“There are natural therapies such as a holistic approach with herbal medicine which is much safer, often more effective, and cost much less,” says Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, author of the book Real Cause, Real Cure (Rodale, 2011). “Of course, you should never start, change, or stop taking medications without first talking to your doctor.”
