The common cold some times called rhinovirus, the most common viral infective agents in humans are the predominant cause of the common cold. As with most things in life the best offense is a good defense.
There’s been a lot of research about taking zinc for colds ever since a 1984 study showed that zinc supplements kept people from getting as sick. Since then, research has turned up mixed results about zinc and colds. Dr. Brent A. Bauer an M.D. with the Mayo Clinic wrote a recent article discussing this topic: Zinc for colds: The final word? Quoting his summary: “But the recent analysis stopped short of recommending zinc. For now, the safest course is to talk to your doctor before considering the use of zinc to prevent or reduce the length of colds.”
Medical Sciences has yet to come up with the pill that cures a common cold but maybe your grandmother figured out that the best cure was not to get cold by using nature’s defenses or good eating habits.
A strong immune system is the best defense against the common cold. So follow your grandmother’s advice build up your immune system with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
