Renal Angiography is a radiographic examination of the renal artery and associated blood vessels after the injection of a contrast medium.
Contrast dye is injected via a catheter threaded into the blood vessels of the kidneys to make them visible on a fluoroscope, allowing detection of any abnormalities affecting the blood supply to the kidneys.
The purpose of the exam includes the repair of a bleeding renal vessel, determine whether a mass in the kidney is a tumor or vascular tissue, and examine the renal blood vessels (which supply blood to the kidneys) for signs of blockage or abnormality which may be causing bleeding.
The total cost of a renal angiography radiologist exam includes the procedure cost and any required lab tests, physician consultation for the review of procedure findings.
Not included are diagnostic studies, consultations with additional specialists, and cost of complication management; travel, food, and lodging.
