Global Health Care Benefits in a Corporate Health Coverage Plan

How does accreditation of facilities overseas compare to those in the US?

The Joint Commission International (JCI), a subsidiary of the U.S.Joint Commission, is the health care industry’s official accreditation institution. JCI also provides educational and consulting services to hospitals around the world. The number of JCI approved foreign medical sites has increased from 76 in 2005 to over 220 in 2008. Both JCI and the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) are able to provide useful and reassuring benchmarks for patients to consider when selecting a Global Health Care medical facility. In lieu of the JCI and its expense, some countries are establishing their own accreditation standards.
