Kim Kardashian Deals with Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition that causes raised bumps or scaly patches of skin to develop on a person’s body.

While psoriasis is very common, affect 7.5 million people in the U.S., it is often misunderstood and stigmatized

According to Everyday Health, Kim Kardashian is “just the latest star to help raise awareness of what it’s like to deal with the flaky, rashy flare-ups of psoriasis. Here, the most famous psoriasis patients share how they cope with their condition.”

After Kardashian was diagnosed with psoriasis, she was concerned about the impact it would have on her career. “People don’t understand the pressure on me to look perfect,” she lamented on the E! reality show. “When I gain a pound, it’s in the headlines. Imagine what the tabloids would do to me if they saw all these spots?”

Because psoriasis flare-ups can be triggered by stress, Kim’s dermatologist suggested she take a break from her fast-paced lifestyle.

However, with a fashion line, endorsement deals, and an upcoming wedding to basketball player Kris Humphries, Kim says that it’s “just not possible.” Joining Kim Kardashian as stars with psoriasis are LeAnn Rimes, Jon Lovitz, Jerry Mathers, Stacy London, Art Garfunkel, CariDee English.
