Water is essential to our body’s system and our health

It has become one of the biggest fitness frenzies as people all over the world seek to gain the health benefits of drinking adequate amounts of water.

Although people used to rely largely upon tap water to fulfill their daily quota of drinking water, now the bottled version seems to have taken first place.

The Good

When the choice is between bottled water or tap water this popular video by Evian gives a fresh and unique understanding of its advertising benefits. But…

The Bad

In 1999, the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) published the results of a four-year study in which researchers tested more than 1,000 samples of 103 brands of bottled water. These researchers found that “An estimated 25 percent or more of bottled water really just taps water in a bottle, sometimes further treated, sometimes not.”

884 million people lack access to safe water supplies; approximately one in eight people. People living in the slums often pay 5-10 times more per liter of water than wealthy people living in the same city.

An American taking a five-minute shower uses more water than a typical person in a developing country slum uses in a whole day.

In just one day, more than 200 million hours of women’s time is consumed for the most basic of human needs,  collecting water for domestic use.

The Ugly

3.575 million people die each year from a water-related disease. The water and sanitation crisis claims more lives through disease than any war claims through guns.

Almost two in every three people who need safe drinking water survive on less than $2 a day and one in three on less than $1 a day.

US municipal water systems must test for harmful microbiological content in water several times a day, bottled water companies are required to test for these microbes only once a week.
